Yoga
I am a Down to Earth Yogini and Authentic Hippie! I was introduced to Yoga back in high school and have been a practitioner for over 25 years. When I arrived to Virginia Beach in 1993 I was more interested in the meditation portion of yoga classes as the postures came natural to me. When Hot Yoga arrived at a local gym, my practice evolved. I began to incorporate more yoga classes into my life, in addition to lifting weights and cardio. Eventually, I realized that I didn’t love the gym anymore. I just loved Yoga.
To me, Yoga is a way to let go of expectations. It is a way to release physical tension in the body. It is a way to become more aware of the bodies we live in. Yoga is about the breath; our life force. I teach Yoga because I want to educate people on how their bodies move. Most people have no idea how the body works. It’s not a terribly fascinating subject for most. But, for people like me who find it amazing and mind-blowing, I have made it my passion to help others understand the amazing mechanics of our body. I also teach Yoga because many years ago I realized that Meditation is the key to a peaceful life and that most people can't' sit still for more than 2 minutes. I share Yoga because I have the patience to do so. Patience is an essential quality to teaching.
I incorporate some sort of tidbit about anatomy during each class. I have fun with each class bringing a lighter note. People think that in order to start yoga, you have to be super flexible like a pretzel. I try to dispel that myth at every opportunity.
